Wooden USB Stick

USB memory sticks are always nice to have around when transferring files from computer to computer. These sticks from studio OOOMS are made to stand out from their natural environment of computers and offices. The sticks are picked from the woods and are individually selected for their natural beauty, and then professionally handmade into unique and personal USB memory sticks.

The Glassbulb Light

The Glassbulb Light by OOOMS is a lamp shaped like a wineglass. This atmospheric lamp is the perfect lighting for those long romantic evenings accompanied by a nice Bordeaux. The LED’s inside will shine for over 30.000 hours, so that’s around 10 years of romance at night!

Road Kill Carpet

Do you know the feeling that you do not want to take a look at something, but you still do? The Road Kill carpet is a continues struggle between attraction and repulsion. It’s a warm, soft, cuddly carpet that attracts you to take a nap on it. But at the same time its a repulsive image of a car-flattened, bloody fox.

The Milkmaid

Commissioned by the Dutch souvenir project and initiated by the European Ceramic Work Centre, the Milkmaid by Studio OOOMS is not your typical keepsake. Inspired by Johannes Vermeer’s innocent painting “Het Melkmeisje”, this Delftblue ceramic dildo will certainly be a talking point if you leave it out on your mantelpiece!

Sea-Urchin

This lounge chair is the perfect spot to spend your lazy sunday afternoon reading a book. The inside of the chair is padded with soft cushions while the outside is covered with a structure of 8000 cable-ties. Every cable-tie is painstakingly stripped to another to give it the spiky appearance of the sea creature it’s named after.

Bloom! – Lettuce

How come artificial plants don’t bloom? Studio OOOMS designed a series of artificial plants which don’t look real, but they really bloom! Just spray water on the surface of the plant and within minutes the little lettuce will unfold its leaves gently.

Studio OOOMS designed a series of artificial plants which don’t look real, but they really bloom!
This surprising plant needs special treatment every day. Pour water in the pot and within 7 days the leaves will unfold, showing us the bright colours within.

She then found that she was interested in different plates for her photographs, so started making them herself. Her own label is her own personal approach to design. Slow design, where care is taken and quality paramount. The bone china bowls in the image above are as thin as paper, beautifully translucent yet incredibly strong. The Minutuner is as simple as an alarm clock can get, described by its designers as an attempt to change our perception of time with a good dose of minimalism. Obviously influenced by a perception of time as a linear flow, it brings to mind the progress bars below our everpresent online video players, contextualizing our lives as finite things to be lived well and with no regrets. Since being established by Dennis Pahitis twenty years ago, Aésop skin care has become an uncontested success story in the notoriously fickle beauty industry – focused on providing its worldwide clientele with the highest quality botanical skin care, rather than subscribing to mainstream-cosmetic anti-aging hype.

Aésop now have 78 international stockists, plus 20 signature stores including stores in Paris, London, Sydney and their most recent Melbourne addition, Flinders Lane.

Designed by local interior architects Rodney Eggleston and Anne-Laure Cavigneaux of March Studios, the ambient new store has drawn attention from all sorts of passers by. Store manager, Kate, says she wasn’t expecting how amazed customers would be by the store’s design. “It’s clear it’s a very tactile environment. Most people come in and tend to want to touch it all.”

You and Me, Sitting in a Tree, K I S S I N G. . . Mua

Mua was designed with lovers in mind. The organic shape invokes the idea of two people intertwined, embracing each other. Wicker wrapped steel on the outside, red for love in the inside. Mua dangles from a tree suspended for all voyeurs to see and at the perfect angle – looks like a giant heart shaped pendant. Implying love in a design can border the esoteric to the ridiculous but I think the Mua strikes the perfect balance. I just hope those red covers are washable… by yanko

The shape of this rack is thought to mix at the same time the culture and the symbol of the DNA. A realization of the Mexican designer Joel Escalona which associates the helicoid structure with a sober and shifted piece of furniture. More images in the continuation.
