Photography: World is beautiful ~by Josef Hoflehner

The world is barren but beautiful with Josef Hoflehner. High contrast black and white photography.

Austrian photographer Josef Hoflehner has taken photos of some of the world’s busiest places and made them seem void of all human contact. His images create a feeling of isolation (whether truly in the middle of nowhere in Socotra or in the middle of Paris) and loneliness. The high contrasts and haze also make some places seem inherently eerie, even sinister, at times.

Travelling the world from Yemen to Iceland to Vietnam, Hoflehner’s portfolio is as extensive as his passport stamps must be and he’s been involved in exhibitions (both solo and group) for a long time. He has won a swag of awards and was nominated for the prestigious Lucie Award last year as well as being named the Nature Photographer of the Year.
